How many schools can I compare at once?
You can compare up to 4 Australian schools simultaneously. Simply search and add each school using the search bar above, then click "Compare Schools" to see them side-by-side.
Is the School Comparator free?
Yes! Australian School Finder's School Comparator is completely free to use with no registration, no subscription, and no hidden costs. We believe every Australian family deserves access to great school information.
Can I compare schools from different states?
Absolutely. You can compare schools from any combination of states and territories, including NSW, Victoria, Queensland, WA, South Australia, Tasmania, ACT, and the Northern Territory. Use the state filter to narrow your search.
How do I share my comparison with someone?
After adding schools and comparing them, click the Share button to copy a unique URL to your clipboard. Anyone with the link can view the same comparison instantly — no login needed.
What information is shown in the comparison?
The comparison table shows up to 6 data sections: Overview (type, sector, gender, year levels), Academic Indicators (ICSEA score, FOEI, selective status), Student Community (enrolment, indigenous %, LBOTE %), Location & Context (LGA, remoteness, region), and Contact & Links. ICSEA data is available for NSW government schools — other states show enrolment and available fields.
What is ICSEA and why does it matter?
ICSEA (Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage) is published by ACARA. It measures the educational advantage of a school's student community — not the school's quality. The national average is 1000. NSW government schools dataset includes both ICSEA and FOEI values. Use it to understand student background, not as a performance ranking.
Can I print the comparison?
Yes! Click the Print button below the comparison table to open the browser's print dialog. The comparison table is optimised for printing — unnecessary elements like the search panel are hidden automatically.
Where does the school data come from?
All school data is sourced directly from official Australian state and territory education department registers and open data portals. Data is periodically updated to reflect current information.
How do I choose between a Government, Catholic, or Independent school?
Government schools are free and state-funded. Catholic schools offer values-based education at low-to-moderate fees. Independent schools include a wide variety of private institutions. Use the comparator to evaluate options side-by-side before making your decision.
